BBA 118 fiberglass pakking manual - Usage instructions

This article explains how to use the BBA 118 fiberglass pakking manual by Boretti.

How to apply the new fiberglass gasket onto your (Ceramica) kamado

  • Make sure that the temperature of ambience and the kamado edge when applying the fiberglass gasket is at least 17 °C, this is very important as the new gasket will not stick properly at lower temperatures.
  • Remove the old gasket from the kamado.
  • Clean any (glue) residue off the kamado by gently brushing or scraping off.
  • Be sure not to damage the ceramics by brushing or scraping with too much force, we advise to use a plastic spatula.
  • Some alcohol can be used to remove remaining glue residue but make sure to keep use to a minimum and give the alcohol time to evaporate after application.
  • The cleaner the edge is, the easier it will be to apply the new fiberglass gasket.
  • Start to apply the lower gasket at the far back of the kamado, this is where both ends will meet after application.
  • Gently unroll and apply the fiberglass gasket along the kamado edge, make sure the gasket is exactly on the middle of the edge. Take off the cover of the glue strip step by step when applying.
  • Once the full circle is done cut the fiberglass gasket in the right size with a scissor.
  • Use the included patches to cover the point where the two ends of the gasket meet.
  • It can be a bit harder to apply the top part of the fiberglass gasket onto the lid.
  • Try to get the upper part to stick in the right position, after heating up the kamado (see below steps) the glue will stick much better.
  • Close the lid and keep it closed for a few hours so the glue can settle a bit.
  • After this, it is vital that you heat up the Ceramica kamado to at least 200°C for several hours with a closed lid. Heating up the kamado will make the glue active and create a better connection between the gasket and the kamado.
  • Check if the connection is solid (after the kamado has cooled down completely) and enjoy your new fiberglass gasket.
