How to prepare your barbecue for winter?

  • Updated

We recommend that you thoroughly clean the barbecue at the end of the season. Clean the interior and exterior of the barbecue with a cloth and a mild detergent. Thoroughly dry the barbecue after cleaning it.

Clean the grills and grease them with a vegetable oil (e.g. sunflower oil). Wrap the grills with newspaper and store them in a dry place. If necessary, external and moving metal parts of the barbecue (such as bolts, nuts and hinges) can be sprayed with WD-40. This makes them more resistant to weather influences and frost, and reduces the chance of rusting.

Clean the burners of a gas barbecue at least twice a year (ideally at the beginning and at the end of the barbecue season). For this purpose, first disconnect the gas hose with gas pressure regulator and gas cylinder. Refer to the manual of the barbecue to ensure that the dismantling and assembly of the flame tamers and burner pipes is done correctly. Clean the burner pipes with a wet cloth and a brush.

Furthermore, we recommend that you store the barbecue under a cover in a sheltered and dry place (e.g. in the garage or shed). If the barbecue is stored for a longer period of time, remove the cover from the barbecue at least once a month to reduce possible condensation and to check the barbecue for rust, insects and mould. Disconnect the gas cylinder and always store it outdoors.
